Past
It’s fitting that the sports media empire that is born in a basement. Matt Jones and Rob Gidel’s Brainchild Kentucky Sports Radio, launched in November 2005 as a blog and podcast, the latter recorded at Andrew “Hubby” Jefferson’s Basement. The Mission: To supply news about the University of Kentucky, football and recruiting in the most ridiculous way possible. Thanks to the evolution of the site and the birth of the hugely popular radio show, this mantra remained paramount, right down to a notification from Ryan Lemond’s app laughing and photos of Kentucky enthusiasts throwing 3 glasses around the world.
In the first years, KSR was basically the reflexes of the university friends who enjoyed cats and, in turn, the blog evolved an original cult. Fans who sought any other classic sports policy followed while Matt and his friends discovered their foot in the industry. In 2007, the recruits of Patrick Patterson and Jai Lucas took the site to another level, with a new audience aboard daily updates. “News about Patterson or Lucas?” It has a popular chorus through the State, and the popularity development of KSR has helped the site to establish themselves in the world of media.
From there, KSR began to climb more writers because we all learned that this had become a single thing. In 2008, KSR organized his first festival “Who needs to be a blogger” for aspiring writers. TheTer Thompson finished third. Two years later, Tyler joined the site as a component time taxpayer, evidence that you are a component of the KSR family, you will never go. On August 2009, Drew Franklin signed a contract with John Calipari, John Wall and Demarcus Cousins. The Calipari era has brought a new wave of expansion to KSR, while enthusiasts look forward to all the content they can about the new and exciting adjustments in Lexington.
KSR radio screen introduced in August 2010, selling the site’s exhibition. The site’s request to the site doubled in page prospects and unique visitors. online.
Present
Before KSR joined the On3 Network in 2021, it was the largest independent college sports site on the internet. The decision to partner with On3 was made in large part to preserve that identity as the sports media landscape continues to evolve.
As founder of KSR, Matt Jones is still involved in the day-to-day operations, providing guidance and direction. KSR is led by Tyler Thompson, the site’s Editor-in-Chief since 2018, and Drew Franklin, managing editor, radio co-host, podcaster, and Jack of all trades. Nick Roush covers football along with Freddie Maggard and Adam Luckett, Jack Pilgrim covers basketball, and Zack Geoghegan covers recruiting in both sports. Maria Taustine keeps the site rolling on the business side, with help from Maggard in ad sales. Brent Wainscott joined the team in 2021 to assist with graphics, video, and social media.
KSR also has a large staff of part-time contributors and interns, including Bryan the Intern, whose semi-regular “Rants and Ramblings” have prompted choruses of “BTI Sucks!” since 2007.
Future
Now, component of the ON3 network, KSR will continue to grow and in this new era of sports media. The component has not only provided a very D user experience, but KSR now has access to national talents and soon, the recruitment database of the most productive industry. The site continues to make its video content more and its presence on social networks, while it remains faithful to our roots with exclusive characteristics, the most recent news and a touch of humor. It is not bad for a blog born in a basement.
