Ahana welcomes database pioneer David E. Simmen to the control team as Chief Technology Officer

“Dave has a remarkable track record of innovation in distributed knowledge bases, knowledge federation, and complex analytics. This, combined with his more than 30 years of architecture and design in the field, is simply impressive,” said Steven Mih, co-founder and CEO of Ahana , “He reveled in the innovation of generating distributed knowledge bases with materials from Splunk, Teraknowledge and IBM Ahana with the intensity needed for a revolutionary progression actually to succeed in our vision of unified and federated analytics. I couldn’t be more excited to have Dave at the helm as technical director and co-founder. »

Simmen joined Ahana’s maxim recently after Apple, where he designed iCloud Knowledge Base services. Prior to Apple, he was a leading architect at Splunk and was named the first member in the company’s history. There, he built Splunk’s multi-year technical roadmap and architecture for corporate clients. Prior to Splunk, Simmen was an engineer and technical director at Teraknowledge Aster, where he led the technical direction and led the architecture team that built complex analytical engines and garage capture for giant knowledge discovery applications.

Early in his career, Simmen, a senior technical staff member at IBM Research, added inventions to DB2 such as the IBM Starburst SQL compiler, MPP and SMP support, database federation, and many others. Simmen can also be an inventor named in 37 U.S. patents. And it has five publications on its behalf, adding fundamental intellectual techniques for order optimization, robust query processing through progressive optimization and analysis of Big Data Accelescore with collaborative planning.

“During my time with Dave at IBM’s Almaden Reseek Center, and then with the DB2 optimization team at Silicon Valley Lab, I saw firsthand his technical expertise and broader leadership skills,” said Dr. L Haas, dean of the College of Information and Computer Science at UMass Amherst and IBM’s retired companion Dean Haas, are the most productive known for their paintings in the query processor Starburst. , a federated engine.

Dean Haas continued: “His combined intensity of leadership and technique is unprecedented, and he points out that he joined Ahana to drive innovation for the next generation of knowledge federation for analysis. I can’t wait to see his vision come to life in this space.”
