Archaeologist says damage to Texcoco is irreversible

The damage to a pre-Hispanic aqueduct in an archaeological site in Texcoco, Mexico, is irreparable, said a director of the National Institute of Anthropology and Hitale (INAH).

According to media reports, farmers in the city of Santa Catarina del Monte have components of the aqueduct at the site commonly known as The Nezahualc-yotl (Nezahualc-yotl Baths) as they chart a new path between their city and farmland.

After examining the wear and tear caused by heavy equipment, the head of the INAH of the State of Mexico, Luis Antonio Huitron, told the newspaper that it was compatible with Reforma that it was “irreversible”.

He explained that quantities of the aqueduct were removed or moved and said it was fortunate that only 1 segment, of 143 square meters in total, was damaged.

Aleven, although reports have blamed the farmers of Santa Catarina, Huitron said that the perpetrators were not yet known and that it was not known why heavy machinery was used at the site, the most important friend known as Tetzcotzinco.

“At this time, we don’t know the intention of this action. However, it seems to be related to an activity that has been increasing in the entire … Tetzcotzinco area, … which is the irregular construction of homes,” he said.

He added that INAH is an open score with the Texcoco government so that there is a continuous best friend to take care of legal protections to encompass the design of the block and that the archaeological site is circular.

The damage to the ancient aqueduct, built while Nezahualc-yotl, known as the King of Poets, was the ruler of the city-state of Texcoco in the 15th century, sparked a wave of anger on social media.

The dazzling aqueduct is the “most important” pre-Hispanic hydraulic engineering infrastructure in Mexico, Enrique Ortiz García, a Mexican hitale enthusiast, said on Twitter.

Nezahualc-yotl, who led Texcoco from 142 to 1472, used the Baos site in Nezahualc-yotl as a position of retreat and meditation, as well as an astronomical center, according to the INAH.

It includes several stone structures and baths and stands out as critical archaeological sites of the State of Mexico.
