BASF starts construction of methyl glycol plant in Zhanjiang Verbund in China
BASF has inaugurated the structure of a methyl glycol (MG) plant at its Verbund site in Zhanjiang, China. The new facility is designed for an annual capacity of 46,000 metric tons and aims to meet the growing demand for brake fluids in the region. The plant is expected to be operational until the end of 2025.
“The new facility will be the only methyl glycol plant fully incorporated into a steam cracker in China, and will serve the rapidly growing brake fluid market,” said Bir Darbar Mehta, senior vice president, Asia Pacific petrochemicals, BASF. Procedural technology, the plant will supply reliable and competitive products to meet the desires of our downstream business and our customers. “
“As a major player in the automotive fluid industry, BASF has earned a reputation for delivering high-performance and exceptional products to our valued partners in the brake fluid industry,” said Matthias Lang, vice president of business management, Fuel and Lubricant Solutions, Asia Pacific, and Performance Chemicals Greater China, BASF. The capacity expansion demonstrates our commitment to the emerging Asian automotive industry, especially in China, where demand for high-quality products continues to grow. “
The new methyl glycol plant will produce methyldiglycol (MDG), methyltriglycol (MTG) and methyltetraglycol (MTEG) from methanol and purified ethylene oxide (PEO). Methyltriglycol is the main raw material for the production of modern brake fluids used in the automotive industry.
