Campaign for wholesalers to find a seafood business in Louisiana

A new initiative has been announced to support wholesalers, fishermen and processors joining consumers looking to buy Louisiana seafood.

Louisiana Direct Seafood, a marketing program managed through LSU AgCinput and Louisiana Sea Grant, is adding a wholesale directory to its website. The site where the best friend originated evolved to help fishermen and coastal processors locate businesses.

“With COVID-19, classic seafood distribution systems have improved today,” said Thomas Hymel, Louisiana Sea Grant/LSU AgCinput extension officer and director of the Louisiana Direct Seafood initiative. “Processors and wholesalers don’t seem able to move products normally, and our goal is to help them locate new markets and opportunities, as well as design Louisiana seafood consumption.”

In addition, a broader crusade aims to advertise state seafood to institutional buyers such as chefs, restaurants, specialty food markets and independent supermarket chains, according to a press release. Outr Way will use the bureaucracy of social networks and other virtual channels, the partnership with influential people in food, communication with other state agencies and media contacts.
