March 27 (UPI) — Chinese President Xi Jinping met with several U. S. CEOs and in Beijing on Wednesday in what appears to be an effort to reassure foreign investors amid global tensions in U. S. -China relations.
About 100 CEOs from around the world, in addition to more than 30 U. S. executives, attended this week’s China Development Forum.
“The respective successes of the two countries are an opportunity for each other. As long as the two sides consider each other partners and show mutual respect, coexist peacefully and cooperate to achieve win-win results, China-U. S. relations will improve. “Xi told representatives of the U. S. business, strategic and educational communities, the official Xinhua news firm reported.
China has noticed a decline in foreign investment in recent months as several points have shaken investor confidence in the Chinese economy. These points come with slowing growth, stricter regulations and national security legislation, as well as tensions between the U. S. and China over Taiwan and disputes in the South China Sea.
Xinhua reported that Xi told U. S. business leaders that China is implementing primary measures to “comprehensively deepen reform and promote a world-class, market-oriented and law-based business environment,” which will create an area of progress for U. S. corporations as well as other enterprises. foreign corporations.
While acknowledging the dire and demanding situations in U. S. -China relations, Xi highlighted an agreement he said was reached with U. S. President Joe Biden last year in San Francisco on the desire to stabilize bilateral relations.
In an article about X, Biden described the meeting as “one of the most constructive and productive discussions we’ve ever had. “
At a press conference following their summit, Biden said that “restarting cooperation” is one of the three accomplishments of that meeting.
