All 10 CONMEBOL members will participate in the tournament, along with six teams from the CONCACAF region. The Copa America last came to the United States in the summer of 2016 for the Copa America Centenario, the centennial birthday party of the South American championship.

In 2016, the USMNT and Mexico were required to qualify for the tournament, but the CONCACAF giants earned an automatic bid for the 2024 Copa America. They had to qualify as one of six CONCACAF groups in the 2023-24 Nations League. Like the USMNT, Canada, Mexico, Costa Rica, Jamaica and Panama will face South American opposition.

First of all, it means betting on more competitive and higher-level matches between World Cups. The USMNT has faced the likes of Brazil, Argentina, Colombia and other South American countries in friendly matches over the years, but as it stands, its competitive matches stand in the way of the CONCACAF festival: the Gold Cup and World Cup qualifiers.

The tournament schedule is also for all the national groups involved, halfway through the 2026 World Cup, which will also be held in the United States (as well as Mexico and Canada), just as EURO 2024 is the halfway point for European nations.

Only time will tell if the combined America’s Cup will be the new overall in the Americas.
