August 13, 2024: More than a portion of U. S. states have been able to use the U. S. U. S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention are reporting symptoms that COVID degrees are poised to continue to appear over the summer.
The CDC’s most recent wastewater surveillance data shows that 27 US states are detecting “very high” levels of SARS-CoV-2, the virus that causes COVID. The “very high” label indicates the point of viral activity used by the organism. Four degrees of decrease can be reported: Minimum, Low, Moderate and High. Nationally, the lowest point reported is moderate and no states report low or minimum degrees.
“If you see higher levels of SARS-CoV-2 wastewater viral activity, this may simply mean there is a higher risk of infection,” the CDC warns.
There are other signs that the summer COVID wave is far from ending its consecutive 13-week surge. The rate of positive COVID tests reported to the CDC is now above 17%, up from 0. 3% in early May. The tests are ready in about 2 years. The US region that includes Texas, Oklahoma, New Mexico, Louisiana and Arkansas had a combined regional positivity rate of 24% for the week ending August 3.
The CDC recommends staying alert to whether respiratory viruses like COVID cause a lot of illness in a person’s community. The CDC also provides a county-level study tool to understand local COVID levels for others to make decisions about prevention efforts, such as wearing a mask in public.
An updated COVID vaccine will be available to everyone 6 months of age and older later this fall.
