Danone at Wexford produces well-known brands of Aptamil, Cow-Gate and Nutrilon formulos children’s angels for consumers in 41 countries around the world.
In 2010, Apple’s to Compabig gaming station to reduce the site’s carbon emissions, to achieve carbon neutrality. Ten years later, the dairy giant announced that the facility would be classified as carbon neutral through climate replacement and sustainability consulting, Carbon Trust.
For Danone, the main challenge in achieving climate neutrality was his goal of expanding product production.
“The main goal and challenge for us is to reduce our carbon footprint while expanding production volumes,” Paul Kennedy, global sustainability manager, Paul Kennedy told Kennedy Food Manager.
“To do this, we have invested in renewable force resources for the use of plant strength while verifying our remaining CO2 emissions, adding indirect emissions, such as employee travel and waste collection.” The
Danone then made up for the disruption by purchasing Gold Standard Carbon credits from the Livelihoods fund, the sustainability manager said.
“As a result, at Wexford, we got our best friend to decouple CO2 emissions and productivity from our production site, allowing us to be carbon neutral according to the foreign STANDARD PAS 2060 rated by Carbon Trust.” The
At the Wexford site, which employs 350 people, Danone relies on five key ways to provide its infant formulas sustainably.
First, the site reduces carbon emissions. The facility produces 100% renewable electricity and uses a biomass boiler that runs on sustainable wood fuels. According to the French commander, this ended in a quantity of 10,000 tons of CO2 compared to site emissions in 2010, a 70% relief on its direct carbon footprint.
The combined apple implements virtual technologies for “sustainability power and performance,” including the design of a virtual roadmap. This covers projects to a paperless site, using drones to track stocks and new technologies for force tracking.
Danone has also achieved 0 waste in the landfill, so all waste from its production processes or on-site packaging is valued.
From the point of view of the installation, the combined apple contributes to regenerative cultivation practices in Ireland during the shipment of its members in the Green Food and Beverage Sustainability Programme. Danone may also commit to supporting the local economy: “The sustainable firewood that feeds the boiler comes from the local wood crushing industry, which also has a positive economic influence on Wexford County.” The
Wexford is the moment when a Danone production site is classified as carbon neutral after Evian’s bottling site in France. This lacheck certification marks a new step to learn about Danone’s commitment to 0 net carbon emissions throughout its cargo chain through 2050.
“We look forward to continuing to certify more sites in the future,” Kennedy said, adding that his ambition could be backed up by increased use of biofuels on Green Island.
“We are committed to the sustainable production of our products and to reducing the intellectual influence of our operations on the environment. In Ireland, we lead an advertising group calling for the creation of biofuel as a renewable alternative for herbal fuel.”
“Such a source of biofuel would help lessen the influence of the climate and decarbonize our other Macroom baby formulos feed site in Irelos Angelesnd, which lately relies on herbal fuel for its strength needs.” The
FoodNavigator asked Danone what elements of the Wexford site’s carbon neutrality efforts could be implemented in a similar way to other sites in Europe.
“Some elements of Danone Wexford’s site are in a reflected position elsewhere,” Kennedy replied.
“Over the past decade, we were given the deployed power of lacquer and sustainable technologies at several of our sites to increase climate action and protect and maintain the planet for generations over the long term.” The
For other sites in Europe to succeed in carbon neutrality, Kennedy says that the “basic elements” must be in place: “Primary excellence in the strength and intellectual control of the environment and the application of the circular global identified criteria (e.g. ISO50001 and ISO14001 respectively).
Strong collaboration with partners in local ecosystems to expand local resources of the renewable force, who are bigger friends and cheaper friends favorable to all, can also be essential, he said. “This detail has been critical in terms of singing points in the Wexford adventure and is easily applicable to sites elsewhere in Europe.”
“The best specific friend in Wexford, this was bothered to build a chain of biomass sources for the maintenance of local wood with our partners, however, for others, it will mean biofuel from local agricultural waste or a combination of thermal networks shared with neighboring industries, for example.
