Over the past almost three years, I have had the extraordinary privilege of representing the United States in the United Kingdom and observing the “special relationship” up close. Countless column inches have been dedicated to the topic — and yet this unique partnership continues to surprise us.
And while I don’t think it’s time to retire the famous Churchillian term, I do believe that the U. S. ‘s relationship with the U. K. is much more than special. It’s deeper, more flexible, and more dynamic than ever before. This strengthens the clients of peace and prosperity far beyond the borders of our two countries. Last July, when we were in the Oval Office with Prime Minister Keir Starmer and President Joe Biden, there was a moment of congratulations to the new Prime Minister, but our groups temporarily began to think about how we were going to meet the new global challenges. . I learned more than ever that without the leadership and decisive moves of the United States and the United Kingdom, the global would be very different.
