OSO, Wash. (AP) — The small network in Oso, Washington, has dedicated a memorial to the 43 other people who died at the site 10 years ago in the deadliest landslide in U. S. history. Hundreds of other people gathered there Friday for an official rite of opening of the memorial, a $3. 8 million site committed to Oso, the dead, survivors and first responders. The trauma that engulfed the rural network of a few hundred more people on March 22, 2014, a national awakening Washington state has begun hiring more staff and mapping to better manage risk, and has tightened rules on logging landslide-prone slopes. fearing that clear-cutting near the most sensitive part of the scar might have contributed to the disaster.
