NEW YORK CITY (AP) — Delta Airlines said a flight from Detroit to Amsterdam had to be diverted to JFK Airport early Wednesday morning after passengers were served spoiled food.
Delta Flight 136 headed from Detroit to the Netherlands when it discovered that a portion of the inflight meal service had been ruined.
The flight with 277 passengers on board took off from Detroit around 11 p. m. and landed safely at JFK around four a. m.
A spokesman for the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, which runs the airport, said 14 of the plane’s 277 passengers and 10 crew members were treated by a medical corps of workers upon landing. None of them required hospitalization.
It is known exactly how many of the 277 passengers on the flight ate the spoiled food.
Delta investigates how the food spoiled.
They issued a saying: “Delta Flight 136 from Detroit to Amsterdam diverted to New York’s JFK Airport early Wednesday morning after discovering that a component of the in-flight meal service had gone bad. Medical groups were on site to greet the plane and treat all affected passengers and team members. Delta groups will work without delay to collect data on how this incident occurred. This is not the service Delta is known for and we sincerely apologize to our consumers for the inconvenience and delays in their travel.
