Donald Trump has raised the possibility of jailing his warring political parties if he regains the White House in November.
Trump made the comments days after a New York jury found him guilty of 34 counts of falsifying records to conceal a secret payment to adult film actress Stormy Daniels ahead of the 2016 election. He denied being guilty of any crime.
Speaking to the conservative newspaper Newsmax on Tuesday, Trump added to his false claims that he never asked for his rival in the 2016 election, Hillary Clinton, to be jailed.
“I said, ‘Wouldn’t that be bad?. . . Wouldn’t it be terrible to jail the president’s wife and the former secretary of state (think about it, the former secretary of state) and yet the president’s wife?Wouldn’t that be a terrible thing?” Trump said.

“But they have to,” the presumptive Republican presidential nominee added, reportedly referring to his political opponents. “So, you know, they’re leading us down a terrible, terrible path, and it’s very imaginable that it has to happen to them. “
Speaking on Newsmax, Trump said his indictment in New York is a “terrible precedent for our country. “
“Does that mean the next president will do that to them?” he said, reportedly referring to his opponents. That’s the question. “
Trump also said he “got a lot of credit” for going after Clinton as president.
“Some other people said I did it, but, you know, I may have done it, it would have been very simple to do it, but I think it would be a terrible precedent for our country,” Trump said.
“And now, whoever it is, you’re going to have to see things very differently. It is a very bad path towards which they are taking us as a country. “
Trump has continuously said that the New York case manipulated and falsely connected Joe Biden to the prosecutor’s office. The president condemned Trump’s efforts to undermine the judicial system. Newsweek reached out to the Trump and Biden campaigns for comment via email.
Trump “wants you to know that everything is rigged,” Biden said at an election event in Greenwich, Connecticut, on Monday. “But it cannot be that nothing is outside the truth. The truth is, Donald Trump had every single possibility. “”To protect themselves. It was a matter of state, although he said that it was Biden who organized it, not a federal matter. “
Trump is expected to be sentenced on July 11 through Judge Juan M. Each of the charges of falsifying business records carries a sentence of up to 4 years in prison. However, it’s unclear whether prosecutors intend to seek prison time or if Merchan Lo would sentence him to prison, though that’s the recommendation.
Trump is also charged with three other felon cases, but it’s unclear whether any of them will go on trial until November.
