EU provides $93 honduran skill formula millimed out to fight coronavirus

TEGUCIGALPA – The European Union has awarded Honduras 80 million euros ($93 million) in aid to support Central America’s poor fitness formula to cope with the influence of the coronavirus pandemic, an EU official said Wednesday.

Despite strict measures to curb the spread of the pandemic, local hospitals have battled the diversity of patients with respiratory diseases in Honduras, which recorded 35,345 infections and 988 deaths from the virus.

“In Honduras, 80 million euros can be allocated in health, early recovery, economic recovery measures, employment and huguy rights,” Alessandro Palmero, the EU representative in Honduras, told journalists. Analysts expect the pandemic to cause the Honduran economy to contract from 2.9% to 3.9% this year and the loss of 500,000 jobs. About 62% of the population in a post lives in poverty.
