Fatal accident reported at McCain Foods construction site

COALDALE, AB – A structure employee died after a twist of fate just east of Coaldale.

Details on what exactly happened are scarce, but it happened at the McCain Foods expansion structure on Wednesday, July 17, 2024.

The victim was a subcontractor for Fisher/Dawson Wallace Construction Ltd. The company offered its condolences to the relatives of the deceased.

McCain Foods’ regional president for North America, Howard Snape, told LNN that he was “deeply saddened” to have been informed of what happened.

“Our sincere condolences are extended to their families and loved ones. We supply it to anyone on site who needs it, adding consulting services. A safe environment for everyone in our facility is paramount,” says Snape.

RCMP at Dawson, Wallace Construction and Coaldale say investigations are ongoing, but they won’t release any more data until it’s complete.

McCain said he was largely cooperating with the contractor and the local government and would cooperate with investigations.

The food processor is currently undergoing a $600 million investment that will add new production lines and renewable energy infrastructure to build the facility.
