As Donald J. Trump returns to office, the critics, prosecutors and perceived enemies who sought to hold him accountable and banish him from American political life are now facing, with considerable trepidation, a president who is assuming power having vowed to exact vengeance.
Trump has promised to investigate and punish his adversaries, that is, those involved in his four prosecutions and the congressional investigation into the attack on the Capitol on January 6, 2021.
These threats, as well as his stated goal of granting clemency to at least some of those who carried out the January 6 attack, have made many in Washington nervous, fearing not only government action that opposes them, but also that the transmission of your wishes have been fulfilled. He created an environment of unpredictable and unleashed retaliation through his supporters.
Michael Fanone, a former police officer who was among those attacked by the pro-Trump mob on January 6, 2021, unabashedly criticized Mr. Trump. He said he feared that the violence and threats that have already been directed against him and his family circle – including his mother – will only get worse after Trump comes to power.
“I am very concerned about the potential for violence and acts of violence that will continue not only against me but also against my family members,” he said. “My fear is that other people will do the same if they physically attack me. “Nor the members of my family circle, Donald Trump will absolve them of their actions, and who can say that he will not. “
