A vehicle stolen Monday from a Highland County Community Action Organization site in Greenfield and destroyed has been recovered, and police believe it is suspected, no fees were filed Tuesday afternoon, according to the Ohio State Highway Patrol.
The Greenfield Police Department won a call at 7:45 a. m. Monday, reporting that a vehicle had been stolen from the Greenhills Village Apartments Community Action Senior Nutrition website.
Highland County Community Action reported on its Facebook page that the vehicle was the 2017 Hyundai Santa Fe, which was last noticed Monday crossing a bridge on SR 28 on the edge of Greenfield to Ross County.
The Chillicothe Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol said the vehicle was on Cliff Run Road in Ross County, on the right side of the road, in a small ditch around 8:30 a. m. but they couldn’t locate the pilot.
“We have a suspect, but we haven’t filed a complaint yet,” the spokesman said Tuesday afternoon.
Julia Wise, executive director of Highland County Community Action, said the vehicle was stolen from the senior nutrition site of Greenhills Village Apartments, where Community Action has recently had a kitchen.
“For years, we started using our cars to serve as food so they could put them in hot boxes in cars. We also have freezers and refrigerators in the cars, so we started the cars to run everything, and that’s how we had to do it,” Wise said. “This is the first time we’ve been robbed of a vehicle, so it’s clear that we want to expand a new plan, like remote beginners or something similar. “
In addition to the vehicle, Wise claimed that the person who stole the vehicle also left with the driver’s money from the network action, his debit card and in all likelihood other items.
Wise said the vehicle passed over a railing and would possibly have been injured under the vehicle, and said a front mirror was also missing.
He said whoever stole the vehicle left a hammer inside.
“It’s unfortunate that it happened after all those years, but unfortunately we know how society is doing in those days,” Wise said.
The state patrol said it’s likely going to be a few days before the rates are set.
