MORGANTOWN – The Mon Health Medical Center Assistant welcomed hospital leaders and staff, as well as government officials, to celebrate the Auxiliary’s 80th anniversary and inaugurate the Auxiliary’s Caring Cottage project.
Luella Gunter, executive director of philanthropy at Mon Health Medical Center, spoke to The Dominion Post before the rite about the auxiliary organization and the Caring Cottage project.
“The auxiliary’s project follows the hospital’s project,” he said, “to serve the community, one at a time. “
The auxiliary began her paintings in October 1944.
His paintings span activities large and small, he said. For patients, members provide a care cart with puzzles, games, and other activities. They provide goodie bags. ” Just little extra touches to make sure our patients are comfortable. “
On the larger side, the auxiliary financially supports the hospital by increasing the budget for special projects of the year, culminating in the largest: the prom of the year. This year’s ball is number 60, scheduled for November 2 with the theme Wild, Wonderful and Whimsical. .
Proceeds from last year’s dance were used to fund the structure of the first Caring Cottage, on a piece of land in Pineview Driver near the hospital campus. Thursday’s birthday party took place in a parking lot next to the site, where the foundations are being laid and golden shovels await the opening ceremony.
This year’s proceeds will also be donated to the project, Gunter said. Its purpose is to donate one million dollars as a donation and expand the project.
Mon Health owns the land that extends up the hill, he said, and has the ability to expand it up to six cabins as needed.
Each building will contain two furnished apartments with amenities including a washer and dryer. They will serve patients and their families coming in for care from out of town. “We want them to feel like it’s a home away from home because we know that it helps in the healing process.”
They will provide a position to stay without patients and their families having to worry about a hotel bill, he said.
Mon Health President and CEO David Goldberg opened the ceremony. “What years have passed. “
The hospital has moved and evolved over the decades, he said. “What the emphasis on community is not. “
And this assignment is a template for everything the auxiliary has accomplished, he said. “The first 80s were great. The 80th moment will be even greater.
A representative of Sen. Shelley Moore Capito presented the aide with a special certificate of popularity in Congress from Capito.
And Reps. Gov. Jim Justice, Sen. Joe Manchin, and Rep. Alex Mooney, greetings.
Justice said: “This milestone truly reflects the incredible determination and focus they have shown to our communities over the decades. …Their commitment to service is simply incredible. …Every hour you volunteer, every dollar you raise, and each and every arts initiative you champion truly reflects the spirit of West Virginia.
Manchin said: “Mon Health is the cornerstone of quality healthcare for the rest of the people in this region. . . This anniversary is a testament to the commitment of the directors and of Vandalia Health and Mon Health in trying to provide quality care to our fellow West Virginians. Most importantly, it is a testament to the determination of the auxiliary council and its members.
And Mooney said, “I sincerely congratulate all stakeholders who helped bring innovations to the families and staff of Mon Health Medical Center. … A life of service is a life well lived and I thank everyone who has helped make Mon Health a center [with] a professional care team.
