As new variants of the coronavirus gain traction in the United States, summer travelers are faced with a familiar and tedious question: How will the ever-mutating virus’s travel plans?
In light of updated guidance from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, responses may be different than in previous years.
Here’s what you want to know about traveling this summer if you’re worried (or think you are) about Covid-19.
Recent CDC. Data shows that Covid infections are emerging or likely expanding in more than 40 states. Hospitalization and death rates, although low or highest seen in recent years, are also increasing.
This accumulation is linked to a handful of variants, dubbed KP. 2, KP. 3 and LB. 1, which now account for the majority of new cases.
At the same time, a record number of people travel by car and plane.
Bottom line: you’ll probably delay or cancel your trip.
