An old production of primary foods in Corvia will be transformed into a development that will reduce employment.
Sun International Recycling Group has been granted direct permission to build two industrial/advertising buildings on the Godwin Road grounds on Earlstrees Industrial Estate.
Between 70 and 80 new jobs will be created and two buildings totaling 7,868 square feet will be created.
The applicant recently acquired the site, which it previously occupied through Solway Foods, employing approximately 900 people.
The combined apple closed in 2014, with the loss of all jobs.
Food Uptopia then obtained the Solway Foods site, but stopped producing in August 2018, with the loss of more than 300 jobs.
A paper submitted to the City of Corvia Council on candidate of the applicant stated: “Development will contribute positively directly to the local economy, adding the creation of approximately 70 to 80 jobs and is the best friend NNJCS Policy 22, Policy nine of the Emerging Local Plan and with the economic growth aspirations of the NPPF.
“The proposed buildings never have the best state-of-the-art design, but have been designed to operate on an existing site in an advertising area.
“However, the design of the buildings, adding the alterlocal materials, will respect, reflect and the environment of the site.
“There cannot be an incompatible negative intellectual influence on neighboring houses due to development, such as noise, dust, surface water and/or transportation.”
