June 21 (UPI) – Kurt Cobain, the rock star beyond the guitar he used in his band, Nirvana’s 1993 MTV Unplugged, sold for more than $6 million this weekend, announced Julien’s Auctions.
“SOLD for $6,010,000! A new world record for a guitar! Kurt Cobain’s guitar used with MTV Unplugged from Nirvana!” The company tweeted on Saturday.
Julien stated about him that Cobain had purchased the Martin D-18E 1nine5nine from Voltage Guitars in Los Angeles.
The musician shot himself and committed suicide in 1994. He’s 27.
Nirvana was an integral component of the grunge music movement in the 1990s. The band’s hit songs come with “Smells Like Teen Spirit”, “Heart Shaped Box” and “Come As You Are”.
Among the other Nirvana pieces auctioned this weekend were the remnants of a guitar that Cobain had crushed in concert, the blouse Cobain wore in the video “Heart Shaped Box”, a signed Bleither one CD, a constant list for MTV Unplugged in New York, letters, handwritten lyrics of “Oh Me”, a correspondence from Nirvana’s control block and his newsletter.
