Man Utd XI vs Man City: lineup, showed team news, most recent injury for Community Shield

Lisandro Martinez will start as Manchester United’s left-back in the Community Shield match against Manchester City this afternoon.

Although the result of the classic season opener is not very conducive to long-term success, a trophy and the bragging rights of the Manchester derby are at stake on Saturday at Wembley.

Man Utd already knew that Leny Yoro would be absent after undergoing surgery following a foot injury.

Harry Maguire missed the friendly defeat to Liverpool last weekend as a precaution, but is back alongside Jonny Evans, who was out of action in that match due to illness.

Victor Lindelof and Luke Shaw are absent after Erik ten Hag showed doubts over his fitness, while Aaron Wan-Bissaka is concerned ahead of joining West Ham.

Kobbie Mainoo went straight into the XI with Martínez, Diogo Dalot and Bruno Fernandes. The Portuguese playmaker could start on the wing with Mason Mount and Amad Diallo joining him in attacking midfield.

Rasmus Hojlund is absent due to a hamstring injury, so new number 11 Joshua Zirkzee is on the bench before making his debut. Jadon Sancho tried out as a centre-forward in pre-season, but to little effect, meaning he is also among the substitutes as Marcus Rashford starts up front.

Manchester United XI: Onana; Dalot, Maguire, Evans, Martínez; Casemiro, Mainoo; Fernández, Mont, Amad; Rashford

Substitutes: Bayindir, Collyer, Eriksen, McTominay, Pellistri, Antony, Garnacho, Sancho, Zirkzee

Injuries: Yoro, Hojlund, Shaw, Lindelof

Time and date: 15:00 BST, Saturday 10 August 2024

Location: Wembley
