Michigan Matters: Bringing the region’s fitness to the fore

(CBS DETROIT) — Henry Ford Health is opening a new behavioral fitness hospital in West Bloomfield, as Emily Sexton, recently named CEO of the new facility, spoke about Michigan Matters and the importance of intellectual wellness in a special episode on intellectual conditioning. . .

Sexton spoke about opening the hospital later this year, which will have 192 beds for inpatient care, explaining that it is a joint venture between Henry Ford Health and Acadia Healthcare. The two-story hospital is based on Henry Ford’s in West Bloomfield and will be an educational site to help long-term behavioral health care providers.

Sexton then joined the panel with Elizabeth Hertel, director of the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services, and Eric Hipple, former Detroit Lions quarterback and intellectual fitness champion.

Hertel, who is celebrating his third year at the helm of the state’s fitness department, spoke about the state of behavioral fitness, saying MDHHS has invested more than $360 million over the past two years to help families take advantage of behavioral fitness services.

Hipple has championed intellectual fitness and well-being running with the NFL, the University of Michigan and others.

The three leaders talked about how the region is helping others deal with mental health issues.
