Minimum wage increases to $20 for most fast-food workers in California

Effective April 1, 2024, maximum fast food staff in California will now be required to be paid at least $20. 00 per hour under the state minimum wage law AB 1228.

To apply, painters will have to paint for a dining place with at least 60 locations across the country, in addition to being a “limited-service dining place,” meaning it offers limited or no table service, with consumers paying for their pieces sooner. are consumed according to the State Department of Industrial Relations.

Some exemptions apply, for example, for fast-food restaurants at certain grocery stores, airports, hotels, theme parks, museums, gaming institutions, and event centers with more than 20,000 square feet or 1,000 seats.

In addition, restaurants that operate as a bakery that “produces and sells bread as a standalone menu item” are also exempt from the minimum wage law.

Specifically, the bun will have to be sold as a component of a sandwich or burger, it will have to weigh at least 1/2 pound after cooling, and it will have to “produce” the bun on the spot starting with making the dough. Prefabricated doughs prepared elsewhere are not exempt.

The law also created a Fast Food Council, a representative framework comprised of franchisees or restaurateurs, fast-food employees, advocates, designated industry representatives, and an independent member of the public.

Also expected to serve on the Council are two non-voting members, one from the Department of Industrial Relations and one from the Governor’s Office of Economic and Business Development.

The Fast Food Council will be guilty of proposing minimum wage criteria for the fast-food industry in California, adding criteria on hours and operating conditions, as well as long-term minimum wage increases.

The minimum hourly wage set by the Council would possibly increase to 3. 5% or through an increase in the Consumer Price Index, whichever is lower, and possibly vary the minimum wage by region or state.

It seems that after all these years, despite everything that’s going on, I’m going to get that summer body back. No more fast food for me. The costs are outrageous and after this increase I see that they will be overlooked again.
