(JTA) – Weeks after the New York Times generated a lot of complaints after publishing a painting calling for the army’s deployment in U.S. cities, the newspaper hired the editor of a progressive news site that harshly criticizes Israel for helping lead its opinion efforts.
Charlotte Green is the editor-in-chief of The Intercept, announced and co-edited through prominent journalist Glenn Greenwald, since 2015. Prior to that, he worked for more than a decade at Time magazine.
From July 6, he will be opinion editor and deputy editor of the Times editorial page, according to the newspaper announced Monday. She is one of the 3 hires after a reorganization after the new country of executive leader James Bennet beyond this month.
Some of the Intercept’s critics raised questions about Greensit’s appointment at The Times, pointing to articles critical of Israel that she shared on Twitter.
Greenwald, the founder of The Intercept, has brabably criticized Israel and its political leaders, while the publication’s editors have examined Israel’s right-wing government, on the AIPAC aspect, the pro-Israel lobvia. His political reporting team, led through Ryan Grim, has published several articles about Democratic applicants making investment from pro-Israeli groups. A podcast last year was true to “The Case Against AIPAC,” Israel’s American Committee on Public Affairs.
On Tuesday afternoon, Greensit said on Twitter that he had tweeted the stories of his colleagues but had not yet edited them, which he said was not his role in The Intercept.
Founded in 2014, The Intercept has called itself through the publication of scooplaystation on government surveillance and leaks by Edward Snowden, who is Greenwald. But since then, he has focused more on Washington politics. Last year, Politician called the site “the most powerful voice attacking left-wing Democrats.”
