Netflix cancels Turkish display if online with gay character

Screenwriter Ece Yorenc said Netflix left If Only after it refused to license it.

“Due to a gay character, permission to film the series has not been granted and is very scary in the future,” he told the Turk about the film Altyazi Fasikul, according to the FT.

Netflix has shown the main points of the story.

If only she told the story of Reyhan, a mother of woefully married twins, who is taken 30 years at the proposed night through her husband.

Yorenc said there were no scenes of homosexual sex or physical contact between the gay man and the characters.

The streaming service did not need to comply with Ankara’s requests and instead cancel the screen after discussions with Turkish broadcaster RTUK, he added.

Turkey’s ruling party vice-president Mahir Unal tweeted Monday that he believed Netflix would “show sensitivity to Turkish culture and art with deeper cooperation” in the future.

While homosexuality has been legal in Turkey’s history of fashion, official opposition to the LGBT network has grown in recent years. The Istanbul Pride march has been banned for five consecutive years.

Netflix said it remained “deeply committed” to its Turkish subscribers and those of the country’s artistic community.

In a statement, the company said, “Lately we have several Turkish originals in production, and more are coming, and we look forward to sharing those stories with our members around the world.”
