ARLINGTON, MA – A new apple selling hair care products for black hair recently opened in Arlington. RepHAIRations celebrated its grand opening on 1 June nine to coincide with the observance of the emancipation of slaves on 1 June of nine.
Co-owners Heidi Bailey, Sipho Mangcu and Yvonne Adams told YourArlington that they were looking for the apple to become a gathering position for “verbal exposure and community.” In addition to providing products such as extensions, wigs, fabrics and moisturizers, it also sells books through black writers and products from black-owned companies.
On the RepHAIRations website, Baley wrote that she was encouraged to start the business after a negative celebration when buying hair extensions with her daughter. Instead of being a wonderful step in their daughter’s life, she left them feeling “violated.”
“In conditions like this, I regularly take my business somewhere else, but the fact is I couldn’t,” Bailey wrote. “I had done the research. This store had won the maximum of non-public recommendations. It had the highest productive outlook online, and we needed the product. I felt like I was choking because I knew the fact: it wasn’t the only store, it was the only model. It was a fact I discovered was hard to accept.”
RepHAIRations is at 133nine Massachusetts Ave. Your opening hours are Wednesday from 12 p.m. four p.m., Thursday of four p.m. at nine o’clock at night and Friday and Saturday from 11 a.m. to four p.m., or by appointment.
