NI’s leading executive says: “There’s no doubt Eat out to extend”

Retail NI managing director Glyn Roberts said: “Many restaurants and businesses will be offering, of course, it’s basically the hospitality sector.

“I think we’ve already noticed that several local restaurants continue to do so in September because it was a wonderful success.

“This has benefited a lot of troubled companies and I think it bodes well for the future.”

The Eat Out to Help Out program introduced to help closed businesses due to the coronavirus crisis. It aims to inspire consumers to dine in institutions for 50% of the price.

The company was then able to claim the remaining 50% of the award from the government.

On 3 August, it allowed consumers to get a 50% reduction in food or non-alcoholic beverages for eating or drinking (up to a maximum of 10 euros off depending on dinner) at attractive restaurants.

Roberts added: “We want a coherent strategy to bring other people back to our main streets.

“An executive organization will have to be created immediately.”

“What would help is getting more workplace staff back to the workplace. The office staff provides a lot of traffic and business for downtown businesses.”

Mr. Roberts said the initiative should be noticed in a “wider context that needs to bring others back to our urban centers, our urban centers, socialize and buy.”

He added: “We are starting to expand a program with your executive, not just for the hotel industry, but which would help independent stores that have fought the pandemic.

“There are many smart examples in local cities where a coupon formula is specific to independent retailers.

“We want a coherent strategy to get other people back on our main streets. The executive organization will have to be established immediately.”
