Nordex launches wind turbine in the US optimized for lower wind speeds

German wind turbine maker Nordex Group has unveiled a five-megawatt (MW) wind turbine for the U. S. market that “significantly increases efficiency” at lower wind speeds.

Nordex’s new onshore wind turbine, designed for the US market, uses the technical concepts shown from its Delta4000 series, such as the main shaft and bearing, the force formula and the generator frame of its sister model, the N163/5. ArrayX, which is already field-tested.

The company claims to be increasing power thanks to larger rotors and higher hub heights for each wind class, as well as increasing force ratings.

The N169/5. X has a rotor diameter of 169 meters (554 feet) and a force score of up to 5. 5 MW. A variety of tours optimized for the United States will be offered. Nordex says its N169/5. X is suitable for windy regions of the United States, with no intense turbulence and low to medium wind speeds.

José Luis Blanco, CEO of the Hamburg-based Nordex Group, said:

The N169/5. X is one of the largest and most effective turbines in the U. S. market, evolved for our expansion goals in this region.

Once again, we have followed our demonstrated technique of a scalable product strategy through showcased parts of our five-MW elegance to scale up a turbine variant that particularly increases efficiency, especially in projects with limited grid capacity, thanks to an optimized capacity factor.

Nordex North America already offers N163 and N175 variants for sites with terrestrial limitations and some sites with network restrictions in the configurations. The N169/5. X will allow you to meet the additional desires of consumers in sites with limited networking.

Nordex already has a U. S. -based chain that qualifies its wind turbines to qualify for the Biden administration’s Inflation Reduction Act (IRA) tax credits because it manufactures parts such as nacelles, transmissions, and hubs domestically. It will manufacture the N169/5. X turbine and N163 at its plant in West Branch, Iowa. Production of the N169/5. X is expected to begin in 2026.
