Norfol Brewery and Virginia Restaurant, Accommodation and Travel Association react to new restrictions on Hampton Roads

NORFOLK, Va. – New restrictions are coming to Hampton Roads.

On Tuesday, Governor Ralph Northam made a statement touching on COVID-1 knowledge of the region. He said this as a consultation to prevent the spread of COVID-1nine in the region.

“It happens when many giant apples gather. When apples too big don’t settle, and as I said before, when too big apples are selfish,” Northam said.

Restrictions come without on-site sales or alcohol consumption after 10 p.m. and all restaurants will have to close at midnight. Indoor foods can be limited to 50% capatown and all public and non-public social gatherings of more than 50 Americans are prohibited.

“We all know that alcohol changes their judgment,” Northam said. “You don’t care so much about social distance after having more than one drink. That’s when the virus spreads.”

For Ken Van Hook, he worked to renovate his brewery, Elation Brewing, afloat.

“We’re doing our thing and we’re sticking to that,” Van Hok said.

The pandemic hit his partner hard.

“It went down 90%,” he said. “He never recovers.”

He said Northam’s order would have no influence on his business.

“We are in a very durable position at 10 p.m. or earlier, ending in the day,” Van Hok said. “Our best friend doesn’t allow the group station of 50 or more Americans, whether it’s the pandemic, and actually not at first, and they’re withdrawing us from our 50% capacity.”

Eric Terry, president of the Virginia Restaurants, Accommodation and Travel Association (VRLTA), told News 3 that they were surprised by the movement with COVID-1nine data from Hampton Roads.

He thinks he has some influence on business.

“We want to be forced to have other Americans do the right thing,” Terry said. “Overall, we are the governor’s actions, although it is clear that we would love to open up a little more time for our friends. But this is what it is.”

While Van Hok believes this will have an influence on other businesses in the area, he said it was critical to stick to the tiplay station and logically spread it.

“We don’t prefer anyone to be sick. We don’t prefer anyone to be sick,” Van Hok said. “If we prefer to decrease what we do for a while, do it.”

The restrictions will take effect midnight Friday, July 31.
