NYU Abu Dhabi (NYUAD) Art Gallery will release its fifth virtual archive, Inventing Downthe town: Artist-Run Galleries in New York City, 1952-1965, as a component of its TRACE series: Archives and Meetings, July 28. The TRACE event, co-organized with the NYU Grey Art Gallery, Inventing Downthe City Curator Melissa Rachleff, meets NYU Grey Art Gallery Director Lynn Gumpert and NYUAD Art Gallery Executive Director Allison Maya. Starting with the historical exhibition Inventing Downthe town as a birth point, speakers will explore the history of New York’s famous downthe town art scene and discover how art scenes form today, even at a time of physical separation.

Organized through NYU’s Grey Art Gallery, Melissa Rachleff’s Inventing Downthe town exhibition visited the NYUAD Art Gallery in October 2017. His studies and the resulting catalogue for this exhibition marked a turning point in the certainty of New York art history. He examined the era between the h8 of summary expressionism in New York in the early 1950s and Dad’s art and minimalism in the early 1960s.

It is the first exhibition of the primary museum to directly review those critical years from the point of view of four galleries of key artists. This live webinar will take place on July 28 at 8 p.m. via Zoom. Tracking: Inventing Downthe town marks the launch of the virtual exhibition file. The online archive will provide virtual versions of the youth guide, the exhibition brochure and the photo archive.

Meanwhile, the NYU Abu Dhabi Art Gallery (NYUAD) announced its fourth virtual archive, Permanent Temporaryity, as a component of TRACE: Archives and Meetings on July 7.
