PHYLLIS TAM, OF THE NEW YORK FILM ACADEMY, PASSED IN THE SEMI-FINAL FOR THE FOUR ANNUAL STUDENT ACADEMY AWARDS

New York, New York, July 21, 2020 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) – Phyllis Tam (NYFA) of the New York Film Academy, who recently earned her master’s degree in film from THE NYFA Los Angeles campus, has been desperate for the semi-finals of the 47th Annual Student Academy Awards.

Of 1,468 films, only 92 films were desperate to qualify for the semi-finals of the Student Academy Awards. Film scholars from schools and universities compete in the prestigious Student Academy Awards in the following categories: animation, documentary, live action story and alternative/experimental. Phyllis Tam, who presented her short film Fragile Modirectly to the New York Film Academy, will continue to compete in the Short Film Narrative category.

“I couldn’t be more excited that Fragile Moon has opposed the semi-finals of the Student Academy Awards,” said NYFA Film Festival director Crickett Rumley. “Phyllis worked so diligently to get the most out of one and the details of her film, to the location of the subtitles, that it’s no wonder her deterministic country was worth it. It’s such a timely story about the influence that directly immigrated to the United States and the pursuit of the American dream in families. The themes of memory, loss and the healing force of art resonate long after the film ends.

“We are proud to see Phyllis Tam’s creativity and hard paintings bear fruit with her film Fragile Moon as she continues to advance at the prestigious film student festival around the world,” said Michael Young, president of NYFA. “Like Phyllis’ honorary award for the Student Academy Awards, we are excited to see NYFA academics continue to achieve their dreams through their prestigious paintings.”
