“It’s clear that the ethos of Rough Trade – to narrow the gap between artist and audience – has struck a tremendous chord here in New York. Creating an even larger mecca for the music lover is an exciting prospect, especially for our intimate live events, where the world’s most exciting artists perform in-store for the admission of purchasing their new album. Creating a focus of counterculture in midtown Manhattan has thankfully proved to be a wildly successful move, and we look forward to creating an even stronger creative community as the year progresses.”
Rough Trade’s other New York location opened in Williamsburg, Brooklyn in 2013, the largest record store in New York, before moving to 30 Rockefeller Plaza in 2021.
The retail chain was founded through Geoff Travis in Ladbroke Grove, West London, in 1976. Then he created the record label of the same called in 1978, the two separate entities 4 years later.
Rough Trade recently has several retail outlets in London, adding one in the old tin alley that opened in October, as well as bases in Nettingham and Liverpool.
Last year, the general director of Commerce Rough, Lawrence Montgomery, said they were looking to open more stores, especially in London. “We are attentive to opportunities in the United Kingdom, however, we are respectful of the country’s independent branches, so we are very express when we read about opportunities,” he said. He also added that the chain “evaluated some opportunities in London, where we have a forged equipment and an operational configuration. “
The great resurgence of the vinyl industry follows in recent years, the number of independent vinyl retail points achieving a 10 -year summit last year and CDS completely sold in vinyl for the first time in 35 years in 2023atray
