MOSCOW (AP) — Russia’s ambassador to the United States, Anatoly Antonov, said Friday that Washington is implicitly legitimizing terrorism by remaining silent about the bombing of the Nord Stream and Nord Stream 2 pipelines.
“They need everyone to know about the shameful statements made through American leaders about the importance of destroying the pipelines,” Antonov said via Russian news firm TASS. “They must put all the blame on their Ukrainian puppets, although they are fully aware that Kiev will not take a single step without the green light from Washington. “
Antonov noted that US officials’ refusal to comment on this high-profile issue is “quite telling” and that they are “adopting a favorable position as open-air observers. “
“Officials did not lift a finger to reveal the facts of the events of almost two years ago,” Antonov added. “The United States is giving carte blanche for crimes in the future. “
Antonov’s comment followed an arrest warrant issued through Germany’s Federal Prosecutor General for a Ukrainian suspect suspected of involvement in the bombing of the Nord Stream oil pipeline in the Baltic Sea.
In September 2022, the Nord Stream 1 and Nord Stream 2 pipelines exploded and were severely damaged in the territorial waters of Sweden and Denmark. Before the explosions, Russia used the Nord Stream 1 pipeline to transport vegetable fuel from Siberia to Germany and European countries.
