Russian diplomat’s phone snatched near Delhi’s Red Fort

The cellphone of a Russian embassy worker was seized from an unidentified man near the Red Fort in Delhi’s Kashmere Gate area, the government said on Tuesday.

The incident occurred around 4:30 p. m. on Saturday, when the woman, a Russian national, was taking photographs near a cemetery at the historic site, police said.

After the robbery, the woman went to the Kashmere Gate police station but preferred not to make any statements and preferred to send an email recounting the incident, according to a police officer.

The police, aware of the incident, lodged an FIR under Section 304 (2)/3/5 (uprooting) of Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) at Kashmere Gate police station.

Authorities are reviewing CCTV footage from the crime scene and have identified a suspect. Several were deployed to apprehend the attacker, authorities said.
