NEW YORK (Reuters) – Hours after the U. S. cost waiver expired Friday, Chinese e-commerce site Temu announced it has revised its shipping model, shipping to all U. S. sellers of U. S. sales.
“All sales in the U. S. U. S. They are now dealt with through local distributors, with orders filled from the domestic country,” a TEMU spokesperson said on a Friday. “TEMU has been actively recruiting U. S. distributors to sign up for the platform. “
Change is a primary replacement for the platform. Temu, and other Chinese electronic commerce sites such as Shein and Aliexpress, in the past they had used exemption minimis, as we know, to flood the United States of products at ultra basic costs. And while the president of the United States, Donald Trump, says he needs his new costs to assist production to the United States, Temu resolution shows how giant corporations can escape this call and see other tactics.
De Minimis’s lagofol allowed shipments of goods valued at $800 or less to enter the U. S. duty-free. U. S. , skipping lengthy inspections and documents. less affordable reasonable goods.
The vast majority of Shein and Temu products are made in China and imported into the United States, which is why the costs are so cheap.
TEMU’s new corporate jargon would possibly seem like it’s in Trump alley, but just because a product is shipped to consumers from a “local warehouse” doesn’t mean it’s made in the United States.
Sites like Temu and Shein have been building their US warehouse portfolio. Uu. For years to reduce shipping times. Last year, the Biden administration also began to criticize the exemption of Minimis, with Chinese chargers feeling a transparent replacement in mood.
Shein started stocking goods, shipping in bulk in U. S. warehouses. U. S. As far back as last year, Chris Tang, a professor of global source chain control at the University of California, Los Angeles, has said in the past.
Bloomberg reported in February that Temu had begun to review its Chinese source chain, requiring that supplier factories send bulk parts to the US warehouses.
For now, this means that foreign-made products are coming to Americans’ doorsteps through American distributors. Temu publicly lists its production partners.
Tang said on Friday that if there is a shortage, Temu has few options. The corporation can renew its products, which would take time and money. You can start providing “substitutes” or recommendations for similar products in stocks, or, you can rack up prices.
Temu has already increased costs last week.
Temu says there are no import fees or additional fees on delivery for parts purchased from local warehouses. On social media, users say the pieces are already sold out.
One Reddit user noted that on Friday, about 60 of the items in his basket were unavailable.
You do not have some pieces of TEMU locally, said another user, writing that its virtual cart of more than three hundred pieces has been reduced to two. In the most sensible of that, the user said that additional rates were implemented unless a “local order” total at least $ 30.
“Temu left!” What I saw today absolutely convinced me!”They wrote. ” Local vendors, despite acquiring safe items in advance in bulk, don’t have all those parts that interested me. “
