Donald J. Trump’s media strategy can be summed up in a word applied to one of his former enemies, the logorrheic mayor of New York, Ed Koch: essential for commentary.

In fact, the former president has seemed that way over the past month since President Biden ceded the Democratic ticket to Vice President Kamala Harris, ending a campaign Trump once convinced he would win easily.

Harris dominated the national verbal exchange even though she had mostly walked away from reporters and refused to hold a news conference. Eager to assert himself, Trump embarked on a cavalcade of interviews in venues large and small, appearing on a video game celebrity’s broadcast. page, requesting a radio broadcast in New York City and courting them at vacation homes in Florida and New Jersey. However, his appearances involve sympathetic interviewers who rarely question his claims and intersperse questions with lots of praise.

The effects were mixed. Fans enjoyed his appearances and Trump’s press meetings were broadcast live on cable channels. But it has also caused controversies that his followers have rushed to purify, such as when he told Elon Musk that some strikers should be fired.

A Trump Media Pattern of the Month:

Date: July 30.

Notable Trump quote: “If you’re Jewish, if you vote for a Democrat, you’re a fool, an absolute fool. “
