Donald Trump completed his remarkable return to power yesterday as he was sworn in as the 47th U.S. president.

“America’s golden age begins now,” Trump said in his inaugural address at the Capitol, shortly after taking the oath of office. Just as he did eight years ago, Trump painted a dark portrait of a country on its knees that only he can simply resurrect.

In his speech, Trump pledged to immediately declare a national emergency on the border with Mexico and terminate the army workforce to protect it. (More on this below). He said he would end government systems that sell diversity, equity and inclusion.

He also announced that he would change the name of the Gulf of Mexico to the “Gulf of America” ​​and promised the Panama Canal: “We are going to get it back,” he stated.

A day of firsts: Trump, 78, has become the oldest user ever sworn in as U. S. president, eclipsing Joe Biden, who was five months younger when he was sworn in four years ago. Trump has also become the second U. S. president to take back the White House after being defeated in reelection, joining Grover Cleveland. He is the first criminal to hold this position.
