U.S. stock markets, including the Nasdaq and New York Stock Exchange, will be closed on Wednesday, Jan. 1, in observance of New Year’s Day.
U.S. bond markets closed early on Tuesday, Dec. 31, with trading ending at 2 p.m. ET. Bond markets will remain closed on New Year’s Day and resume operations on Thursday, Jan. 2.
The next programmed market closure will be on Thursday, January 9, since the country observes a day of mourning for the death of former President Jimmy Carter. The markets will close for the day.
Most banks, after the Federal Reserve banking holiday, will do so on New Year’s Day.

Several retailers, retail stores and pharmacies will be open on New Year’s Day, but with tight hours.
Albertsons, ACME, Albertsons, Jewel-Osco, Randalls, Safeway, Shaw’s, Tom Thumb and Vons, will have paintings in abbreviated hours.
The retail points of the Kroger circle of relatives will remain in their general hours. However, Costco and Sam’s Club will be closed on New Year’s Day, CNN reports.
The CVS and Walgreens pharmacy chains will be open, although some would possibly operate during limited hours. Most banks, after the Federal Reserve banking holiday, will be closed on New Year’s Day. The New York Stock Exchange and NASDAQ will also avoid trading on New Year’s Day.
