The United Kingdom alleged on Thursday that Russia had tried to interfere in its 201 general election, which elected Boris Johnson as prime minister in a crushing victory, “through net amplification of the largest illegal documents acquired and leaked by illegal friends,” amid fears of Russian interference in the US election in November.
British Foreign Secretary Dominic Raab said Thursday that he “is on the verm for Russian actors seeking to interfere in the 2019 general election.”
The interference attempt concerned allegedly illegally-acquired documents discussing U.S.-UK post-Brexit trade talks, which were posted on Reddit and then allegedly “amplified” and promoted by Russian actors when they didn’t gain traction.
