But last month, the council came back and voted for the city’s executive director to meet with representatives to “negotiate an acquisition price” for Ninth Avenue Array.

“The council has investigated the matter but has not reached an agreement on the terms of obtaining the assets with the seller,” the city’s chief executive, Jeremy Edwards, told PerthNow.

According to Cr. Petersen-Pik, the negotiations were subject to “agreed and confidential conditions” within a price range.

“I am proposing the acquisition of the land for additional parking to help offset the likely greater loss of parking spaces in the long term due to the state government’s revitalization task for Maylands,” he said.

“I’m disappointed that we couldn’t reach an agreement with the landowner. “

The one, which currently has a permit to advance for a three-storey residential construction, is directly opposite another 17-space car park.

He would have charged more than $65,000 to turn it into a parking lot.

Rebecca Hall, owner of the Maylands wellness centre on Whatley Crescent, said a number of locals (and their own consumers) still relied on the car.

“We perceive that making long-term plans is moving towards a reduction in the number of people driving a car and we need to develop and inspire the use of public transport. . . Unfortunately, we’re not there yet,” Hall said at last month’s briefing.

“There are still few people in Perth who are contemplating choosing a mode of transport, so there are still a large number of people who need to use a car to get around.

“We still want to make sure that we’re allocating parking spaces to the maximum number of people until there’s a change of mindset in our community. . . We ask visitors to comment on the availability of parking. “

Councilman Petersen-Pik said he is not aware of any other plans to convert other places into public parking lots.
