Virginia orders the U.S. flag to be removed from Richmond yard

RICHMOND, go. (AP) – Virginia state officials ordered the removal of the American flag from a design site until July 4, calling it a possible target for protesters against racial injustice and police brutality.

Dena Potter, a spokesperson for the State General Services Department, said officials had asked a contractor to remove the flag for a new workplace design for state lawmakers in Richmond.

“Over the next month, we saw buildings and structures in the capital of the Destroyed Capitol and flags, dumpsters, a bus and other goods burned in protests circulating around the city,” Potter said in an email.

The Washington Post reports that the verdict infuriated a subcontractor whose fire-proof combined apple used tarps to make the flag, which is about a circumference length.
