When Sam Reich bought Collegehumor and his transmission service, abandoned, in 2020, he admits people: “No one had one who believed [in] me. “
CollegeHumor was once known for its short-form sketch comedy videos bringing in millions of views on YouTube and Facebook. The company was originally founded in 1999 by then-college freshmen Josh Abramson and Ricky Van Veen, who grew it from a humor site posting jokes for a college-aged audience to a media brand producing shows and web series on a consistent basis.
The logo was a launch ramp for many well-recognized names in the comedy, adding Jake Hurwitz and Amir Blumenfeld (of the beloved series through Collegehumor Jake and Amir), Brennan Lee Mulligan and the SNL granted to Emmy-Award Sarah Schneider .
But until 2020, Collegehumor’s good fortune had decreased. The staff had been reduced to only six members, and Reich states that there were up to 15 other corporations that contemplated buying the Collegehumor brand, he could finally win it for the “low and low value of $ 0”.

“I thought, from my naïve point of view, that there was a way to make corporate more successful, more sustainable, faster,” he says in an exclusive verbal exchange with people. “He seemed to me to be someone who was interested in saving my homework and other tasks. Reich announced on January 8, 2020 that he had acquired the maximum of the assets of CH average and their brands, which included abandonment, Drawfee and Dorkly. “[Dropout] really does take advantage of the internet audience,” Reich says. “We give away probably half the content for free on social media. Therefore we think [a healthy amount] about how that show is going to market itself on social media because we depend on that marketing mechanism.”
Reich says “I love Tiktok” and admits that some of the favorite systems for streaming service enthusiasts have been encouraged through internet trends. The platform’s SmartyPants program encouraged directly through viral portions of PowerPoint shared on social media, and Reich says the internet is a nonstop source of inspiration for the service.
“I love the short vertical video,” he says. “A 20 -year -old boy in Wisconsin at this time can make something more fun and this shows through more other people than a comedy movie. “

Reich sees Dropout as a way to help platform creative talents without pipelining them into becoming full-time influencers, an avenue he says is “tough, requires a huge amount of output and a huge amount of engagement with an online audience.”
“I think the lovely abandonment game is that we have created all this infrastructure so that someone does not have to be a full -time influencer to make a living,” he said, admits that ‘he is constantly looking for new talents online to take the fold of The company.
Through this internet-forward strategy, the company has seen continued success. Before announcing the live show at Madison Square Garden, Dimension 20’s largest live audience had been just over 200 people at the Bellhouse in Brooklyn. They’re now expected to fill every seat in the 20,000-person capacity venue on Jan. 24.
“I think that when you play for the Internet, the public feels very abstract. And then you reach a position in which they are physically, and that is when you have a concept of the success of the Internet and its power. ” Explain Reich.
The CEO attributes much of the good luck of dimension 20 to Mulligan and the rest of the cast of the program. Although he is also an executive manufacturer in the program, he says that “90% of my paintings are from Porrista. “
“I feel like I’ve arrived at the marathon to cheer on a friend, and then it turns out they’re winning the marathon,” Reich jokes. “It’s so surreal and I think it’s gonna be that much more surreal to see [the Dimension 20 cast] come out to 20,000 fans.”

Despite the company’s success, Reich says his paintings are far from finishing. Sale of Madison Square Garden is a feat that many creatives dream of being able to achieve, however, Reich points out that he is looking for the long term and locating more tactics to give up “more a success than Collegehumor”.
“We’re having to come to terms with our popularity in all sorts of ways. You can’t exactly call yourself a niche or a garage band and then sell out Madison Square Garden,” he laughs. “Or if you do, you suddenly have to go, ‘Well, 20,000 people in an arena aren’t necessarily interested in seeing a garage band performance.’ You have to answer the needs of your newfound popularity somehow.”
Dropout
So what happened to Collegehumor? Technically, he is dead. All Chmedia sites were retired in 2023 after Reich estimated that the public of the streamer eclipsed that of his founding company. As an abandonment of the best school itself, it feels that the call feels very adequate and abandons the “fratty” facade that the implicit university call, however, the logo that has the highest in its position continued to evolve with the landscape in a constant evolution and torrential Internet.
“There were many times that with an idea that I can pass out.
