Looking for something to do in New York? Let your children dance to the music of David Bowie, or take in films that ponder our relationship with technology.

Jan. 3 at 7:30 p.m. at Brooklyn Cat Cafe, 76 Montague Street, Brooklyn; catcafebk.com.

The city is awash with First Friday events at museums and other venues, but perhaps you would like to kick off 2025 watching comedians cuddle cats while delivering jokes for a good cause.

If so, Marty Cunnie, Ryan Sudhakaran, and Carmen Lagala have what you want with “Zoomies!” “, the monthly stand-up they produce at the Brooklyn Cat Cafe and to get advantages the Brooklyn Cat Cafe. The nonprofit cares for stray animals in the community, provides inexpensive veterinary care, and allows others to engage with eligible adoptees at gatherings such as yoga sessions and movie nights. Friday’s show, which is BYOB, will feature comedians Caitlin Peluffo, Joey Avery, and Corey Tindall.

The exhibit is sold out, but you can get on the waiting list on the cafe’s website. If you can’t get in, catch Peluffo with Jaboukie Young-White and others in “Hot Gossip” Saturday at Union Hall (10 p. m. ; $15 at Eventbrite). Despite its name, this showcase does not involve its host, Jonathan van Halem, talking about the behind-the-scenes antics of his current employer, “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon. ” Instead, Van Halem presents a very good comedy that we can’t help but tell others about.
