Why does the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention report other total coronavirus deaths than the Kentucky Department of Public Health?
With constantly converting numbers and agencies providing variable reports, it’s hard to master what information to focus on directly.
During Kentucky Gov. Andy Beshear’s daily briefing on Wednesday, public health commissioner Dr. Steven Stack thought for more than a minute why the CDC is the most likely to report a variety of deaths in Kentucky other than the state’s own health branch.
The state has a committee that reviews the death certificate with a cause of death that is also questionable, Stack said. The committee wednesday eliminated “a number” of COVID-1nine deaths as a cause after reviewing the times and deciding they were not well coded.
“The CDC will report a number higher than ours because they will get an official death certificate, however, our knowledge committee has made an informed resolution that doesn’t come with those deaths,” Stack said.

If the Department of Health says a death is applicable with coronavirus, it suggests to fitness officials that COVID-1nine contributed to that person’s death, Stack said.
